Turbulence subjected to system rotation is present in a wide range of applications, from engineering to geophysics and astrophysics. Although often coupled to other effects, such as stratification or confinement, rotating turbulence in itself is a delicate issue which is not completely understood. The trends toward two-dimensionality, the influence of the background rotation on the energy decay law, or the asymmetry between cyclonic and anticyclonic vortices, are among the most challenging issues for rotating turbulence.

We investigate the effect of a background rotation on the decay of grid-generated turbulence. A first series of experiments have been carried out on a small scale rotating platform (Morize, 2006). Those experiments are now performed on the new rotating platform Gyroflow, available since 2009.
