Complex spatio-temporal dynamics on falling liquid films

We analyse interaction of pulses in active-dispersive-dissipative nonlinear media. Particular examples of such media are a vertical falling liquid film and a liquid film coating a vertical fibre. We use the generalised Kuramotoâ€“Sivashinsky (gKS) equation as the simplest prototype and the second-order model derived by Ruyer-Quil and Manneville. The interaction theory is corroborated by computational experiments. We also find qualitative agreement between the theory and the experiments on liquid films coating vertical fibres.
