Presentation of the laboratory
Laboratory FAST (Fluides, Automatique et Systèmes Thermiques) is a CNRS research laboratory (UMR 7608),
associated with University Paris-Sud.
The different topics are related to
hydrodynamics, transfer, and mechanics and hydrodynamics in
dispersed media.
The systems under study are simple or
multicomponent fluids, macroscopic dispersed media (suspensions,
granular materials, porous media, fractures...) and soft
condensed matter (polymers, colloids, gels...)
Experiments
(flow visualisation, quantitative image analysing, acoustic
investigations, high resolution gravimetry, rheology...) as
well as analytical models and numerical simulations are developed.
Research areas
- Suspensions (segregation, waves...)
- Avalanches and erosion (granular ripples, dunes...)
- Grain collisions
- Granular pipe flows (intermittency, dynamical Janssen effect...)
- Fracture morphology at different scales
- Flows in fractures
- Propagation of a chemical front in porous media
- Poiseuille-Rayleigh-Bénard flow
- Drying and transfers
- Thermo-solutal convection
- Rotating flows: inertial waves and turbulence
- Free-surface flows, waves and wakes
- Interfacial instabilities (Kelvin-Helmholtz, Rayleigh-Taylor)
- Viscous flows, coiling and buckling instabilities
- Turbulence and mixing in miscible fluids
